Smart Steps NYC is a nonprofit organization committed to providing preventive mental health education to families and individuals throughout New York City.
We focus on preventive mental health education, particularly in underserved and vulnerable communities with limited access to mental health resources like Hispanic communities and other minorities.
NORMANDY MARÍA has dedicated her life to help others. She did volunteer work since childhood. When she was a child, she accompanied her parents when they volunteered to help at different faith-based and community organizations. At early age, she learned the importance of social work in our Hispanic and minorities communities. She is always there to assist those who ask her for help.
Normandy studied Psychology. She has more than 25 years of experience working in social services and volunteering in New York City. She has her own educational service agency for children. During the Covid-19 pandemic, she was a first responder, helping distribute health supplies and food to people around New York City. She saw how the pandemic affected people mentally, she decided to create a nonprofit organization to promote mental health wellbeing.
To empower New Yorkers with knowledge and tools to enhance their mental well-being, reduce stigma, and nurture supportive family environments. We focus on prevention and education to address mental health challenges proactively.
To break down barriers and foster healthier, more resilient families where people can talk openly about mental health, know how to react in a mental health situation, and understand where to get mental health services.
To offer orientation and education to New York families in vulnerable communities about the different mental health conditions through talks, workshops, and training in order to prevent possible mental health diseases, both in mothers and their families.
